I was puzzled regarding a line uttered by Ralph Fiennes in HOTEL BUDAPEST:
"May I offer any of you inmates a plate of mush?"
I was expecting him to say "porridge," given the background of the characters and setting. Well, the American "mush" was certainly funnier. Still, I was in conflict. We kids had mush nearly every day for breakfast back in the '50s. USA.

Hominy grits are a type of grits made from hominy with the germ removed, which is corn that has been treated with an alkali in a process called nixtamalization.
Grits are usually served with other flavorings as a breakfast dish, usually savory.
You're right, Syl! Hominy people really know this?

Family joke: Some acquaintance of ours, unfamiliar with grits, looked at the menu in a restaurant and asked what a "grit" was.

There's an edit icon for the heading.
Used it myself recently when I went into a lather over unthinkingly using incorrect punctuation. Fortunately, I spotted the error within the 30-minute limit.
Some mistakes, however, can never be undone . . .
